How to upload website files to the hosting

There are several ways to upload files to the hosting. The easiest way to do it is using a zip archive and a hosting control panel. You can also use a third-party FTP client if it is more convenient for you or when the size of your archive exceeds the allowable size in the control panel.

Preparing
To make sure that all files will be moved, and the migration will be quick, we recommend archiving these files in a zip or tar.gz archive. Make sure you don’t use a RAR archive, as the control panel does not support it by default.

Uploading files
You can upload files directly in the browser using a hosting control panel:

  1. If you work on cPanel, go to the “File Manager” section and find a folder you want to upload the archive to. For instance, if you want the website to show on the main domain after migration, go to the public_html folder. Press “Send” and then choose “Select file”. Select your archive from the computer and upload it to the hosting.
  2. If you use ISPmanager, go to File Manager to upload files. The website’s root folder can be found in the www folder, and its name corresponds to the domain name. Go to this folder and press Upload. Select your archive from the computer and press OK.
  3. If you use BrainyCP, go to the “Utilities – File Manager” menu to upload files. The website’s root folder can be found in the “Sites” folder, and its name corresponds to the domain name. Go to this folder and press Upload Files (“up arrow” icon). Select your archive and wait for the upload to finish.

Control panels have limits on the size of uploaded files. Therefore, an FTP client can be more convenient in some cases. FileZilla is one of the most popular FTP clients. You will need to enter your host, login, password and port for connection. All these values (except the port) will be sent to your email once you register an account with us. They are also displayed in the service description in your personal account. Port 21 is used for FTP and port 22 for SFTP. In the FTP client, move website files to the root folder to start the upload.
